SMART is LSK stripped to what a wood stove actually needs. Same three-part build — fireclay liner, insulation, concrete outer block — but the outer block is as small as it can be: 32 x 32 cm at Ø160, against 35 x 35 for the equivalent LSK.

That difference sounds trivial on a drawing and is not, in a small house. A chimney runs through every floor, so a few centimetres on each side is floor area lost on every storey. At Ø160 the whole thing takes about 0.1 m² of the room.

The trade-off is scope. SMART is for solid fuel with higher flue gas temperatures — wood stoves, fireplaces, wood boilers. For gas, oil or a condensing boiler, the system is MULTIKERAM or MULTIKERAM LAS.

Recommendation

Solid fuel only. If there is any chance of switching to gas or a condensing boiler later, the saving in floor area is not worth the rebuild — take MULTIKERAM instead. Size the flue from Leier's sizing diagram, using the appliance output and the useful height of the chimney. Order the full height in one go, including the section above the roof, and add the terminal set.
