The square companion to the Modern fence block: same flat face, same five colours, 200 mm long. Four blocks make one course of a 40 x 40 cm pillar.

The columns carry the gate and brace the fence field between them, so their reinforcement and footing are sized before anything above ground is laid.

Recommendation

Decide the column spacing before ordering, not after: it fixes how many fence blocks you need and whether the last bay has to be cut. Run the reinforcement from the footing through to the cap in one piece, and pour the column in lifts so the fill reaches every cavity without pushing the blocks out of line.
