LSK is the standard Leier chimney for a family house. Three parts make up each metre: a fireclay flue liner, a rock wool insulation board around it, and an outer concrete block that carries the load. The insulation keeps the flue gas warm, which is what keeps the draught working and the condensate out of the masonry.

It takes any solid fuel — wood, coal, pellets, mixed-burner boilers, fireplaces and stoves, whether factory-built or built on site. Where the outer blocks include a ventilation duct, the combustion air can be drawn from outside the building instead of from the room, which matters in a well-sealed house.

The flue diameter is not a matter of preference. It follows from the boiler output, the fuel and the useful height of the chimney — Leier publishes a sizing diagram for exactly this. Too wide a flue cools the gas and kills the draught; too narrow a one chokes the appliance.

Recommendation

Size the flue from Leier's sizing diagram, using the boiler output and the useful height of the chimney — the vertical distance from the appliance connection to the top. The diagram covers a single wood boiler on one flue; connecting two appliances to the same flue needs a separate calculation. Order the full height in one go, including the part above the roof, and add the terminal set. A chimney is not a place to economise: the cost difference between two diameters is small next to the cost of rebuilding one that does not draw.
