Short description

Hollow concrete formwork blocks for columns, in 25 and 30 cm. Dry-stacked, reinforced and filled with concrete.

Full description

The column version of the Leier formwork block: a closed square cavity instead of the open channel of a wall block. Stacked dry around the reinforcement cage and filled with concrete, it forms a semi-monolithic reinforced column — the blocks are the permanent shell, the poured core carries the load.

Used for fence posts, gate piers, porch columns and the intermediate supports of a boundary wall — typically together with the wall formwork blocks, which run between the columns. The block surface keys well to render, so a finished column can be plastered or clad without further preparation.

Key benefits

  • Forms a reinforced concrete column without timber formwork
  • Closed square cavity for the reinforcement cage
  • Laid dry, without mortar
  • Two sizes: 25 and 30 cm
  • 4.3 pieces per linear metre of column
  • Surface keys well to render and cladding

Recommendation

Set the reinforcement cage into the footing before stacking the first block, and check it is plumb — a column cage that leans cannot be corrected once the blocks are on. Fill in lifts of two or three courses rather than in one pour. If the column carries a gate or a fence panel, the fixings can be set after the core has hardened.
